The Marine Corps Marathon, which takes place around Washington DC, started in 1975. Colonel James L. Fowler decided to create a marathon that promoted goodwill between the military and post-Vietnam community. The event helps to raise money for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and it brings the community together to show the support for the US Marine Corps. The route of the MCM is amazing and it takes in many of Washington’s major monuments.
In nearly 50 years of helping people experience amazing events, we’ve seen runners enjoy bucket list moments. From that final bend in Central Park to running up the steps of The Great Wall of China.

We know how important a good hotel location is for both the start and finish of a marathon. Our Director of Operations, Alex de Waard looks at marathon events that start and finish at the same location and discusses our hotel locations for these events.
His love of sport and his passion to keep active was seen throughout the UK and the commonwealth. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered especially here in Manchester where the Queen and Prince Philip enjoyed the 2002 Commonwealth games. 2/2
