The 30th edition of the Etape du Tour will take place in the beautiful Cote d’Azur city of Nice in 2020. In 2019 just 7% of starters at the legendary L’Etape du Tour were women… and Her Spirit, in partnership with Sports Tours International, are looking to change that. Her Spirit are proud to offer unique packages for women looking to take on this unique event. The sportive will take place on the 5th of July, and Her Spirit are looking to take, a minimum of, twenty women cyclists, on an unforgettable weekend of cycling in France. The aim of the weekend will be to harness the positive power of women together, and to invigorate and celebrate mind body and soul, in a once of a lifetime trip, culminating in taking on the exact stage of the 2020 Tour de France, as will have been ridden by the professional men of the peloton on 28th of June.

The 2020 Etape du Tour will take place on Sunday 5 July, 2020 in the beautiful setting of the Cote d’Azur and surrounding mountains. The Tour de France stage that has been chosen to be the 2020 Etape du Tour is stage 2. The stage will see the riders of the 2020 Tour de France battle it out on a loop around Nice on Sunday 28 June. In 2019 only 7% of the starters of the Etape du Tour were female, and, with Sports Tours International, you can help Her Spirit get this number into the double figures for the first time!

Bike rental

If you book bike rental with us then your bike will be delivered, and fitted, on arrival in Nice. The bike will be collected after the Etape du Tour on Sunday. Below is the available bike, however note; we can also offer more premium road bikes on request. Prices below are for the duration of the tour and include insurance, excluding damage or theft, resulting from abuse or negligence by the renter.

The 2020 Etape du Tour on Sunday July 5, 2020. Nice and surrounding hills > Nice, 177 km and 3570m of climbing

The 2020 Etape du Tour will replicate stage 2 of the 2020 Tour de France which will take place on June 28, 2020. The stage is 177 km long with a total accumulated height gain of 3570 metres. After starting in Nice, the first of the challenges will be the climb up to the Col de la Colmiane. Rapidly after that, you will take on the climb to the Col de Turini followed by the legendary Col d’Èze. In the final 17-km loop, the hardest part of that climb, will take all the riders of the 30th edition of the Etape du Tour up to the Col des Quatre Chemins. There will then be only a few kilometres of downhill left, before they reach the finish.

- Friday – Airport transfers from Nice airport
- Saturday – Guided warm up ride on Saturday with Mel Berry and Holly Woodford, followed by an Etape du Tour race briefing with Mel Berry and Holly Woodford in attendance

If you are not, please forward to all involved with last week's L'Etape. We used Sports Tours International last week for the L'Etape. I am sending this to sincerely thank Sports Tours International and the staff that were involved with the L'Etape. We had an unforgettable experience on the day and all the logistics, accommodation, food, mechanical, and race information requirements were outstanding. Friday 3 July, 2020 – main arrival day

There are many direct and indirect flight options from many countries into Nice Cote d’Azur airport. If you are making use of our airport transfer service, please give us your flight arrival details. We have arranged coach transfers at various times throughout the day from the airport. Please note, flights are going to be in high demand on this date, so we advise you to book early to guarantee a flight seat and a good price.

We have a welcome desk, at the airport, all day where we will welcome you and get you onto the transport. Our vehicles are equipped with trailers to transport your bike and luggage. Our last transfer from the airport departs at 22:00, so please make sure your flights lands far enough in advance of this time for you to go through passport control and collect your bags.

Accommodation has been booked for you at the stylish SoCo hotel, in the centre of Nice and convenient for the start and finish of the 2020 Etape du Tour with Her Spirit. Please note that if you arrive late today then your evening meal maybe in the form of a cold plate as the restaurant maybe closed. Don’t forget travel insurance – Please visit our insurance page.

Saturday 4 July, 2020 – EXPO and registration in Nice

Today we will take you for a guided warm up ride on Saturday with Mel Berry and Holly Woodford, this is a great opportunity to meet other, like minded women, and get to know each other ahead of the big day tomorrow. This evening there will be a professional race briefing, for the 2020 Etape du Tour, at which Mel and Holly will be in attendance.

Today the EXPO and registration area will be open in Nice where you will be able to register for the Etape du Tour. Sports Tours International have an expo stand in the Etape du Tour village and our staff are on hand to assist you where required.

Your package for 2002 Etape du Tour with her Spirit includes an entry into the 2020 (30th edition) of the Etape. Don’t forget that you need a medical certificate to take part in the Etape du Tour – We offer an Online medical certification service – More information here

Sunday 5 July, 2020 – L’Etape du Tour 2020

We anticipate a 07:00/08:00 start for the Etape, so we have organised early breakfasts at all hotels so you can get to the start early to ensure everyone is lined up in the right pens for the start. The organisers allocate pens according to likely finish time and historic Etape performance, therefore faster riders start nearer the front and the slower riders at the back. Please note, we have no influence over your starting pen. The Etape du Tour is a closed road sportive. There will be water stops en-route and mechanical assistance provided by MAVIC. Along the route, there are certain times that you must have passed certain spots.

Sports Tours International food and assistance points

Especially for Sports Tours international riders there will be additional food and assistance points on the route which give you better access than at the normal feed stops. Many of our riders actually use just our feed stops and avoid the official ones. On the 2020 Etape du Tour we will provide 2 private feed stations plus a reception area at the finish where you can sit and recover whilst you have something to eat and drink. At the finish we’ll ensure that there is plenty of savoury food and maybe even a couple of beers as you’ll have had enough of all the sweet stuff!

If you have booked bike rental or our overland bike transport service then your bike will be collected back from you this evening.

Monday 6 July, 2020 – Departure day

After breakfast we will start running transfers back to the airport. If you are making your own way home, you will need to leave the hotel mid morning. Our earliest airport transfer is at 05.00 for flights departing after 08:00.

Please note that if you book a flight earlier than 08.00 we cannot provide an airport transfer.

Single travellers and twin to share

We welcome single travellers on our tours and holidays as it is a great way to join a like-minded group of people and you will make lots of new friends. If you would like to join our group as a single traveller we can offer you two options. A single room or if you want to avoid the single supplement then you can make use of our ‘twin to share’ option. We will pair you up with another rider (of the same sex) and you can enjoy the event without having to pay extra.

Q. What is the Etape du Tour?

A.
The Étape du Tour means: 'a stage of the Tour de France' and it is a timed event which takes place every year. A full stage of that year’s Tour de France. is chosen and the event is run by the Tour de France organisers, ASO, using similar race-day logistics to the Tour itself..That means you get closed roads, Mavic on-road mechanical support and feedzones like on the Tour de France.

Q. When and where is it?

A.
The Etape always take place in July and in 2020 you and thousands of other amateur cyclists can ride stage 2 from Nice to Nice on Sunday 5 July. This exact stage will be done by the pros on Saturday 27 June, 2020.

Q. How long have I got to do it?

A.
Like for the Tour de France stage, a time schedule is published ahead of the Etape du Tour. You have to pass cut off points on the route at certain times. The cut off points are areas where buses are parked and lorries to transport bikes. If you get there too late you will not be allowed to pass and you are offered a seat on the bus which will take you to the finish. Your bike is transported separately so you have to wait to recuperate it at the finish sometimes.

There is not an actual 'broom wagon' that follows the race and gobbles you up like Pac Man.
