The Dublin Marathon had a record 21,000 runners in 2017 and has become Europe’s 4th largest marathon.

Be one of the 5,700 international runners in 2018! If you don’t fancy running, you can also walk the course (starting at the back). With a start time of 9am and 4 waves(9am, 9.15am, 9.30am, 9.45am), you could be in one of the many pubs with a pint of Guinness by mid afternoon. A relatively flat course with a single lap around the city and ideal running conditions with an average of 12 – 14 degrees Celsius, this could be the marathon for you.

DETAILS
Dublin is an ancient city founded over 1000 years ago by Vikings. Today the city is famous for its sightseeing, nightlife, pubs, restaurant, literary history and the very friendly 1 million inhabitants.

Dublin Marathon is known for its relatively flat course, with 21,000 runners from 60 countries and Europe’s 4th largest marathon, it is certainly a marathon to add to your list.

The course starts in Fitzwilliam Street Upper and finishes in Merrion Square close to the historic Trinity College.

Main Field Start (including walkers) is at 9.00am at Fitzwilliam Street Upper. Walkers should line up at the back of the field. There are 4 wave starts, fifteen minutes apart.

Participants should arrive at their starting area by 8.15 am via one of the time zones. Participants should arrive prepared to run – changing facilities are not provided. Bring a black plastic bag to keep warm.

Wheelchair / Cerebral Palsy – Starts 0855

Wave One (sub 3.39) – Starts 0900

Wave Two (3.40-3.59) – Starts 0915

Wave Three (4.00-4.19) – Starts 0930

Wave Four (4.20+) – Starts 0945

RACE NUMBER

The official Race Number must be worn on the FRONT and be visible to race officials at all times. Failure to do so could result in you being stopped on the route. For your own safety, please complete the personal and medical details on the reverse of the Race Number.

The race numbers are coloured depending on your time zone.
- Orange for the Sub 3.39 (Zone Entry via Fitzwilliam St Lower)
- Green for the time Zone 3.40 to 3.59 (Zone Entry via James St East)
- Blue for the Time Zone 4.00 to 4.19 (Zone Entry via Herbert St)
- Purple for the Time Zone 4.20+ (Zone Entry via Herbert St)
You must line up in the assigned Time zone no later than 8.30 am.
ITINERARY

Friday 26th October: Arrival in Dublin

Please make your own arrangements to fly to Dublin and transport from Dublin airport to your chosen hotel. Dependent on your arrival time, you could head to the marathon expo to collect your race bib, located at the Royal Dublin Society, Merrion Road and open from 12pm – 7pm. Head out during the evening and see the city come to life at night. Enjoy a relaxed night tasting the local cuisine and meeting the locals.

Saturday 27th October:

After an Irish breakfast please make your way to the Dublin Marathon EXPO if you didn’t do so yesterday. You also have the option to join Guinness Storehouse Tour or the Private Half Day City Tour (optional extra – please see below for further details). The remainder of your day and evening are free for you to explore if you don’t wish to join one of the trips.

Sunday 28th October: Dublin Marathon Race Day

Today is the day…

The start is 9am with waves at 09.00/09.15/09.30/09.45am. The start is at Fitzwilliam Street Upper and the finish is located at Merrion Square. Participants must complete the course within the time limit of 7 hrs. After the marathon, you have the option to join a post marathon Gala Dinner and Traditional Show (optional extra – please see below for further details).

Monday 29th October:

With so much to see and explore in Dublin, today you have a day for sightseeing before travelling home. Alternatively, you can book extra nights with us if you want to stay on a bit to enjoy this fantastic city.

What’s included:

Optional Add On’s/Sightseeing:

Post Marathon Gala Dinner & Traditional Show £50 per person inc transport

Travel by bus to the foothills of the Dublin Mountains, approx. 25 – 30 mins away to the Merry Ploughboy for a three course home cooked meal with tea and coffee (other drinks extra). Enjoy traditional live music, songs, dance (Riverdance with champion Irish dancers). The show is 8-10pm with a hotel pick up at 6.30pm. Expect to be back at the hotel for 10.45/11pm.

Guinness Storehouse £15 per person

Visit Irelands number 1 visitor attraction with a 250 year old history of the famous drink in an interactive exhibition. A glass of Guinness is included in the price at the end of the tour.

Public Dublin City Tour £20 per person

The best hop on hop off bus tour of the city. Tours start daily at 9am and depart every half hour. The duration of the tour if you dont hop off is 90 minutes. Stops include Merrion Square, Trinity College and O’Connell Street. A live commentary by trained guides is included on most tours.

Private Dublin Half Day City Tour £20 per person or to include the Guinness Storehouse £35 per person

A 4 hour city tour with pick up at your hotel. Tour includes Phoenix Park (Europe’s largest city park), Historic Georgian Dublin, Traditional pub Nancy Hands for a free Guinness. If you include the Guinness Storehouse, you will be dropped off there on the return and will make your own way back to your hotel at the end.

Academy Plaza Hotel

The 3* Academy Plaza Hotel is located in the city centre just off Upper O’Connell Street. Close to Henry Street shopping and just 10 minutes from Grafton Street. You are also only a 15 minute walk to the marathon start and finish at Merrion Square. The hotel is fully non smoking.

The hotel is a modernist Georgian building with 304 bedrooms over 7 floors. Rooms and decor have been refurbished within the last two years. The hotel offers a large and comfortable lobby, free WIFI throughout the hotel and a fitness room open 6am – 11pm 7 days a week.

Mespil Hotel

The 4* Mespil Hotel is located in the heart of Georgian Dublin, on the banks of the Grand Canal at Baggot Street Bridge near the city centre. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to Grafton Street shopping district and a 10 minute walk to the marathon expo.

The Mespil Hotel offers breakfast daily from 7 – 10.30am, lunch from 12.30-2.30pm Monday to Friday and dinner 6-9.30pm Monday to Saturday. You have a choice of traditional and contemporary cuisine. You also have a bar which also serves pub style food.

The 4* hotel was recently fully refurbished and is a great option for the Dublin Marathon.

The 5* Conrad Hilton hotel is located beside St Stephens Green park in the city centre. The hotel is a 10 minute walk across the park to Grafton Street where the main shopping and nightlife are. You are also only a 10 minute walk to the marathon start and finish. The marathon expo is a 20 minute walk from the hotel.

The hotel is modern and elegant and was refurbished in 2016. The hotel has a number of restaurants serving fine food, wine and cocktails. You can also grab afternoon tea. There is a 24 hour fitness centre, meeting rooms, free WIFI in bedrooms and the hotel lobby.
