Port Elizabeth, set along South Africa’s Algoa Bay is well known for a few reasons. This is South Africa’s ‘friendly city’ a city known for it’s warm hospitality and stunning surroundings, as it lies at the end of South Africa’s Garden Route and is well known for being a safari hotspot and for its stunning coastline. The city’s other nickname is the ‘windy’ city, and this is a city that does tend to live up to both names – adding an extra element of challenge to the Ironman African Championships – held annually at Nelson Mandela Bay. A fierce race in a friendly city, three time Ironman World Championship Runner up Lucy Charles Barclay, is the twice defending champion, on this spectacular course.
