How I unleashed my inner hero...
I have supported the National Blood Service for about six years now but actually started running three years ago. I guess the key objective is to generate an awareness of the importance of giving blood which from experience I know does make a difference and save lives.
Blood is one of those things that cannot be bought so it is really important to maintain levels of blood donors and especially ones who regularly donate. Lots of runners either run for pleasure or run frequently always asking for charitable monetary donations so this campaign is different and one I hope can be joined by these types of runners. I have run, walked it cycled the following for this campaign:-
Greater Manchester Marathon-
(Last leg of four man relay team)
Great Manchester 10k (twice)
City of Salford 10k (twice)
We Love Manchester 10k
Wilmslow Half Marathon
Windmill Half Marathon
Great North Run
Manchester ColorRun (twice)
Total Warrior Leeds (twice)
Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge
Bucket and Spade Bike Ride (twice)
Salford Santa Run (twice)
1. Why is it you choose our runs to regularly take part in?
The runs organised by Sports Tours are really well organised and well attended by a mix of experienced, novices and fun runners. Always a great atmosphere at the Manchester and Salford runs. The advantage of these two is that they are local and therefore the family can come along and support me. Might be tempting fate here but the sun has always shine through too.
2. What are you looking forward to most around the events?
The friendly atmosphere and hoping to meet friends from previous years.
3. Who’s cheering you on – on the day?
Team Mills – wife (Kerry) and the two children (Matthew and Amy) and as always my Guardian Angel, Christian.
4. What are your future running aspirations?
Just to keep running although I recognise that 10k is my distance, sorry furthest distance!! I enjoy the run it gives me headspace.
5. If runners want to run for you, how can they get in touch?
Via Twitter @MancMills or via email email@example.com
