Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon 2011

08 Oct 2011 to 08 Oct 2011
Ocean Lava Triathlon

The Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon is back for its second year, following the success of the first event last September. The date is no coincidence, taking place on the same day as the Kona Hawaii Ironman, which will be screened at the party after the race.

The Ocean Lava Triathlon itself is a 1.9km swim in Puerto del Carmen, with 2 huge catamarans as corner buoys. There’s a 90km bike ride through the vineyards of La Geria, El Golfo and over Femes. Rider fact a steep incline of 22%, before heading to the Timanfaya National Park. 60% of the course is through Lanzarote’s breathtaking lava fields. The run is 3 loops of Puerto del Carmen before heading to the finish.

Last year’s Ocean lava Triathlon was won by Belgian Bert Jammaer in 4h 15m 59s and Veerle D’haese (another Belgian) took the women’s crown in 5hr 04m 44s.

Below are some photos from the 2010 Ocean Lava Lanzarote Triathlon.
