2nd Challenge France – Niederbronn Les Bains 5th-6th-7th June 2009

Sports Tours Triathlon is delighted to announce that we have been appointed as the Exclusive UK Travel Partner for Challenge France 2009. Now in its 2nd year this half iron-distance event (1900m swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run) will take place in the beautiful town of Nierderbronn Les Bains, 45km north of Strasbourg on 7th June 2009.

Last year over 1200 competitors came from all over Europe to compete in this event which saw pro triathletes Francois Chabaud and Belinda Granger take the men’s and women’s titles in 3.51 and 4.35 respectively.

Next year 2007 World Ironman Champion Chris McCormack will be on the starting line so here is your chance to get to take part in the same race as Macca!

Event Overview

Niederbronn Les Bains is a spa town of 4500 residents situated 45 kilometres north of Strasbourg, at the foot of northern Vosges, Niederbronn-les-Bains is nestled in a semicircle of hills that shelter it from the prevailing winds.

At the heart of the regional nature Park of the northern Vosges, in this still authentic part of northern Alsace where the picturesque villages nestle along the length of the foothills of the piedmont and in sheltered valleys, the small town of Niederbronn-les-Bains is a very welcoming place with lots to do and some great restaurants.

Last May, the 1st triathlon Challenge France lived up to everyone’s hopes. For the first year, the most popular triathlon in France in this distance regrouped approximately 30 professional athletes. After Belinda Granger acknowledging after her victory, “I’ll be back. It was the most exciting course that I’ve had the pleasure to participate in my career.” Chris McCormack announced that he will also be on the starting line for the 2nd triathlon Challenge France on the 7th June 2009.

Race Information

Swim 1900m
The swimming takes place in the very beautiful Moutherouse lake, situated at 19 km from Niederbronn-les bains. The distance is 1900 metres and the course will be of a round trip.

Bike 90KM
The cycling takes place on the beautiful roads of the natural park of the northern Vosges. The course is slightly hilly. The distance is 90 kilometres and the course consists of 2 loops

Run 21.1KM
The running race takes place in Niederbronn-les-bains and takes both roads and paths. It is difficult; it comprises a very pleasant forest part. The distance is 21 kilometres and the course consists of two loops

8.00 am – 9.00 am Swimming training at the Mouterhouse lake
10.00 am – 7.00 pm Triathlon Expo and local produce market in Niederbronn-les-bains
9.00 am – 7.00 pm Opening of the registration office in Niederbronn-les-bains

Saturday June 6th 2009
8.00 am – 9.00 am Swimming training at the Mouterhouse lake
9.00 am – 3.00 pm Opening of the registration office in Niederbronn-les-bains
1.00 pm – 5.30 pm Bike registration
6.30 pm Opening Ceremony

Sunday June 7th 2009
10.00 am – 8.00 pm Triathlon Expo and local produce market in Niederbronn-les-bains
10.00 am – 8.00 pm Events at the race finish area and in Niederbronn-les-bains
10.00 am – 8.00 pm Opening of the Media Center
11 am Start of the race with 4 waves (all 5’)
around 3.00 pm Arrival of the first male competitor
around 3.40 pm Arrival of the first female competitor
7.00 pm Arrival of the last competitor – Awards Ceremony
9.00 pm finish line party.
