Come join us in Tokyo, one of the most exciting and vibrant cities in the world where the world’s top runners intermingle with ordinary citizens in the style of the ING New York City Marathon and Virgin London Marathons!!

Over 35,000 runners are expected to take part in the Tokyo Marathon 2012, with around 10% of those being international. The marathon tends to be over 10 times over subscribed! The Tokyo Marathon 2012 is being held as a major fundraising event for those affected by the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami and as such, for this year, the trip is officially called the Tokyo Marathon 2012 Official Charity Tour. You can run for Japan in Japan!

The course of the Tokyo Marathon symbolizes the past, present and the future of Tokyo, and during the unforgettable 26.2 mile journey the runners will have the chance to thoroughly enjoy this legendary city’s legacy!

The Tokyo Marathon starts in front of the impressive Tokyo Metropolitan Government building and passes through numerous famous sightseeing spots, such as the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and the World’s largest fish market, to finish at Tokyo Big Sight Convention Centre. There’s a time limit of 6 hours 40 minutes and you must be 19 years of age or over. A 10km road race is also held on the same day (time limit of 1.5 hours).

We thought you would be interested to hear what Adrian, one of our runners, thought of the Tokyo Marathon.

“Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Tokyo was a fascinating city. The night life was great. Although not advisable before a marathon we stayed out one night til 5 a.m. The Fuji trip and the sightseeing were excellent and the Bullet train sensational. All the logistics of the trip went perfectly particularly after the race – which of course is a critical time. The Japanese organization and planning were done to perfection. So all in all one of the best marathons we have done. Incidentally this was my tenth so I’m feeling quite pleased with myself . I think Tokyo deserves to be included as one of the World Majors.”

Great praise indeed!
