Helsinki City Marathon

Helsinki City Marathon is the second largest marathon event in Scandinavia. Over 6,000 runners from 46 nationalities participated in Helsinki in 2010. This year will be the 31st anniversary of the Helsinki Marathon and there will be a special commemorative medal.
THE RACE
The Helsinki marathon route is one of the most beautiful worldwide. Almost half of the marathon route runs along the Baltic Sea coastline. The magnificent parks in Helsinki make the running experience unforgettable. Runners will have an overlook of the architecture and culture of Finland’s capital, also known as the white city of the Baltic sea.
The Olympic Stadium, Finlandia Hall, Parliament, Nokia House, Kaivopuisto Park,and part of the architecturally interesting city center are all located along the Helsinki marathon route. Furthermore Helsinki City marathon runners will have a great opportunity to explore Helsinki and its leisure activities during the entire summer weekend.
START – The Helsinki City Marathon races will take place on August 20th. The Marathon race will start at 3 pm outside the Olympic Stadium. You should be there at 2.45 pm the latest.
FINISH – The marathon race finishes near the Olympic Stadium.
RACE NUMBERS – All participants can pick up their race numbers at the race office, located at the Kisahalli (near the Olympic stadium), and it will be clearly marked by signs, either on Friday or Saturday during race office hours. The number has to be picked up on Saturday 20th by 1 pm the latest. There will be a special desk for foreign runners. After you have picked up the number You can get the Helsinki City Marathon t-shirt from another desk at the end of the expo area
CHAMPION CHIP – There will be the Champion Chip-system for result taking. Your datachip, which has been fastened to your running shoe gives results. You have to use exactly that chip you are given and it only works for Helsinki City Marathon 2011. You may not use your own chip if you have one. You have to return your chip after the race, or else you will be charged 45 EUR. If you have to retire before finishing the race you have to return your datachip to the HCM personnel.

TRAVEL PACKAGE
We are using a good 3 star hotel, in the centre of Helsinki, which we have used in previous years. From the hotel, it only a short stroll to the Olympic Stadium, so ideal for when you finish the race and want to have a shwoer afterwards.
Your hotel package, including breakfast and sauna, is for 2 or 3 nights.
2 nights – arrive Friday and check out on Sunday.

Transfers from Helsinki airport to Helsinki city centre take around 35/40 minutes. You can either take a taxie which is about €35/40 each way or a bus for about €4/5 each way. Finnair operate a bus service.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Visas are not required to enter Finland. You need a passport or a National Identity Card (see the website of the Identity and Passport Service (IPS)) to enter Finland.
