All coaches are ASA* qualified and have experience of working with all standards of swimmers. You will be given intensive instruction each day as you develope your stroke in an open water environment through 1:1 and 3:1 technique sessions. Daily swimming adventures will enable you to put what you have been taught into practice in a natural open water environment.
We base ourselves in Xlendi Bay – Gozo the sister island of Malta, this beautiful island has a large selection of cliff swims, sandy coves and beaches, ideal for learning and improving swimming technique.
Later in the week after you have monitored your progression through various video analysis sessions all swimmers will have the opportunity to partake in a 51/2km open water swim from Gozo to Malta, under the watchful eye of a lifeguard and escort boat, where you can choose to complete the crossing or hop in at a later stage.
Suitable for those who can comfortably swim 2km in open water and have some open water experience.

Further Information:
Day One
Saturday We meet at our hotel in Xlendi, where you will be met by your swim coaches and taken to one of the local bays for a short acclimatisation and assessment swim. We then meet later in the evening for drinks and a pre-trip briefing in which we discuss in detail the plans for the week ahead.
Day Two
Sunday The protected sandy bay of Xlendi is the ideal location to begin this morning’s swim, coaching and drill session. Following this you will complete a circuit of the bay giving you a chance to work on the new skills you have learnt. Following this we video your stroke both above and below the surface, which we play back to you later that evening.
Day Three
Monday In the morning we embark on a coastal swim exploring the cliff faces, sea beads and marine life as we swim out of Xlendi Bay towards Dwejra Bay. In the afternoon there will be one-on-one sessions with your swim coach to work on improving specific aspects of your technique.
Day Four
Tuesday Up early as we take on the challenge of crossing from Gozo to its Malta. You can choose to complete all of the 5½ km crossing or hop in at a later stage. After this we return to the delightful yet idyllic waters of the Blue Lagoon on Comino to rest after the morning’s exertions. You then have a chance to explore the island followed by another chance to video your stroke in the clear waters of the Blue Lagoon. The late afternoon is given over to the coaches to play back the video to you, back at the hotel.
Day Five
Wednesday We start the morning with a coastal swim leaving from Xlendi Bay and turning left towards Mgarr ix-Xini, a natural stony cliff cove used as a harbour by the knights. In the afternoon you will have a chance to review your progress during the week with your coach while having an intensive small group session (3:1) to work on some specific personal drills that were identified in the previous nights video analysis session. The day is complete with a gentle trek back to the hotel which takes you along the dramatic Sannat and Ta’ Cenc Cliffs with stunning coastal vistas.
Day Six
Thursday Again up early as we swim from outside the hotel and make our way up the west coast and into Fungus Rock Bay. We will also have time to swim underneath and through the Azure Window and stop off at the Blue Hole, a 45M deep dive spot, carved out over the centuries by wind and waves. The afternoon is given over to some group coaching and more video analysis.
Caveat
Caveat: Swimming in the sea is a fantastic experience, but you need to be aware of potential problems. Marine life such as jellyfish, sea urchins and coral could be present on some of the swims, but we will work on minimising. If stung by jellyfish you can normally carry on swimming. However if you do have a problem we can treat you on one of the escort boats. You should contact us prior to booking if you suffer from Anaphylaxis. You should seek medical attention if you develop any infection following contact with the above.
Day Seven
Friday A last chance for a morning swim back in the lovely Xlendi Bay before this Open Water Improvers Trip finishes.
