Lower ING New York City Marathon prices
We are pleased to announce that as the result of discussions with the New York Road Runners Club, organisers of the ING New York City Marathon, negotiations with some of our suppliers, and some favourable exchange rate movements, we are able to reduce the price of the Entry fee for this year’s ING New York City Marathon and of some of our travel packages.
This is excellent news as it makes the marathon much more affordable for everyone now.
Prices have been reduced and are now up to date on our website. This includes the race entry fee being reduced by £50.
For bookings already made, we will reduce the prices on our reservations system and update your booking, reducing the balance you have to pay later or, in cases where you have paid in full already, we will provide a refund of the difference. If you are running for charity and have paid in full and you would prefer us to donate any refund to your charity, then we will be pleased to pay this to them on your behalf – but if you ahven’t paid in full, we will amend your booking and reduce the balance due later.
We are sure that you will be delighted with this news. For anyone looking to enter this year’s marathon, you need to have applied for your entry by the middle of July to be assigned in an appropriate wave according to your marathon pace. Otherwise you will be assigned in the third wave.

City fan runs in United shirt!!
Manchester City fan Nick Cavanagh will be running the City of Manchester 10k, sponsored by Sports Tours International, on Sunday 5th July in a MANCHESTER UNITED shirt.
No Nick hasn’t deserted his beloved Manchester City, he’ll be running the race in a Manchester United shirt and changing half way round into his Manchester City shirt. He hopes more runners will join him in showing a real togetherness as he strides out to raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages. SOS Children’s Villages is the world’s largest orphan and abandoned children’s charity. Child sponsors and donors worldwide provide a new family and home for more than 70,000 children in 475 unique villages in 123 countries.
Nick is also planning a unique fundraising initiative that will start on Monday 26th May. He will be starting a 12 month running challenge to match the distance of the Manchester City team bus as it travels to other Premiership clubs the length and breadth of the country. The total distance covered by the bus during the season will be 1981 miles.
City fan Nick says: “For the record I will be doing this in daily runs wearing the replica shirt of each premiership team, even the one from our arch rivals, but it is for charity so sometimes you have to bite the bullet. I was hoping Portsmouth would be relegated, but I guess not going to Newcastle is a bonus, however I will pop in to the toon on my way to Sunderland!!”
For each mile Nick runs he will be wearing the opposition team shirt, for example it’s 4.6 miles to Old Trafford from Eastlands so that will be over in one outing. At the other end of the spectrum he will be running in a Portsmouth shirt for approx 6 weeks in order to cover the 244-mile distance. Nick does need help from sports companies, fans or even Premiership clubs to supply him with the replica shirt.
Nick adds: “I want all the money I raise to go the this very important charity, therefore if fans, sports company’s etc. can donate shirts I would be extremely grateful.”
Nick is using the City of Manchester 10k to help raise the profile of his chosen charity. Other runners taking part will help to raise funds for the four nominated charities – Francis House, Christies, Cystic Fibrosis and Cauldwell Children.
Race Director Graham Jackson added: “There can be only one winner but the real heroes are those running for their own personal goals and their respective charities. It’s important to realise that whilst the winner will finish in around 30 minutes, the last runner will complete the course in about one hour 50 minutes but no doubt will get the biggest cheer, after all this is now known as THE people’s race ”.

I am a master’s research student studying into the long distance running phenomenon and namely am interested in finding out more about the motivations for participation and the choices you make as a runner in travelling to events. The questionnaire comprises of 3 short sections which shouldn’t take very long to complete (approx 5 minutes) and all answers will be treated with confidentiality and anonymity.
