“Was it tough? Oh yes. It was very tough but a very enjoyable experience, one that I won’t forget for a long time. The riders, the crowds, the closed roads, the scenery, the ice cold water that people were pouring over our heads! Everything made for a superb experience.”

“Onwards and ever upwards, the end was in sight but I was really struggling now with 2km to go. My legs were telling me to stop, my head was saying otherwise. There were loads of spectators on the climb, cheering and shouting encouragement. I got back on my bike determined to ride the last bit. 250m to go, round the last corner and there it was, the finish line. Made it.”

“Finally the finish was in sight and I managed to complete the last 500m without stopping. I turned the last bend, crossed the line and practically collapsed. I got off my bike, sat down at the side of the road and cried. It took me a long time to get myself together, take in the stunning surroundings and fully appreciate the achievement of completing this special ride.”
