Mark Cavendish shortlisted for Sports Personality of the Year Award

Commiserations to cycling star Mark Cavendish who sadly didn’t win Sunday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year. But we have to congratulate jockey AP McCoy, the 36-year-old has had a tremendous year, sealed with a Grand National win in April – at the 15th attempt.

He proved the run away winner, with almost 42% of the vote.

Cav has been and continues to be an inspiration for cyclists and we can’t wait to see him and his Team HTC Columbia colleagues return to Club La Santa for training and hopefully we will get a cycling winner in 2011!

Why we were backing Mark Cavendish for the title:

At Sports Tours International we’ve decided to put our support behind one of cycling’s greats, Mark Cavendish, for the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

He’s the fastest man on 2 wheels and we think it’s definitely his year.

So here are our reasons for backing Cav:

He’s the world’s greatest sprinter on the road
He won 5 stages of the Tour De France
He won the points jersey at the Tour of Spain
He’s only the second Briton to secure a sprint title in one of the top 2 stage races (Malcolm Elliott was the first in 1989)
He’s won 15 stage in the Tour De France
He’s won 5 at the Giro d’Italia
He won 4 at this year’s Vuelta d’Espana

He’s the face of Team HTC Columbia the best cycling team on the planet and in our opinion, deserves the 2010 Sports Personality of the Year Award!

We’ll know the results on December 19th as they get announced live on the BBC at the Birmingham LG Arena.
