The Maddison Bignall Trust

About The Maddison Bignall Trust:

Maddison was diagnosed as suffering from a slow-growing brain-stem GANGLIOGLIOMA brain tumor in April 2007. An operation on her brain stem was deemed too risky so Maddison underwent a six week course of radiotherapy over the summer of 2007, followed by a new drug regime which she started in October 2007. It was hoped that the radiotherapy and the new drugs would shrink or at least significantly slow the growth of the tumor. However, Maddison was admitted to hospital on 21 October as she had lost a lot of weight too quickly and was suffering from a chest infection – the tumor was pressing on the nerves which controlled her windpipe and her food pipe; and consequently some of the small amount of food she did eat travelled to her lungs instead of her stomach. Although she fought long and hard, the chest infection suddenly and unexpectedly developed into pneumonia and she died in the early hours of Saturday 27 October 2007.

Maddison was a loving, thoughtful and caring girl; throughout her illness (and she knew she was seriously ill) Maddison never complained and she was always smiling and cheerful. Only in September 2007, Maddison passed her Eleven Plus examination for admission to her local girl’s grammar school – what an achievement!

That was typical of Maddison, brave, courageous, focused and thoughtful.

In Honor of Maddison’s brave fight and her magnificent outlook on life, Matthew and Jane Bignall created the Maddison Bignall Trust. Its aims are to provide Local , National and International support to people of all race and ages .

Since its creation on January 11th 2008 ( Maddison’s 11th Birthday ) the MBT has opened an Orphanage in Kenya – Maddison House – through a local partnership with the Fadhili Group . Maddison House now homes and schools 27 children with a plan to increase that to 40 by the end of 2010.

In 2009 MBT raised monies for Clic Sargent House in Ayr . It’s a respite home for Families with serious ill children , allowing them all to enjoy some ‘ special time ‘ together by the coast . The MBT helped pay for the refurbishment of the bedrooms by commissioning some art work to brighten up the rooms and making them more ‘ homely ‘.

An addition in 2010 is the National Care Home Charity . We are looking to support Young Carers’ by using funds to help with giving them a much needed holiday and allowing them to be ‘children’ again .
