Go the extra mile for Macmillan’s Centenary in 2011
Today, Douglas Macmillan’s legacy lives on after 100 amazing years of cancer support. Macmillan is an essential source of support for people living with cancer and a major force for improving cancer care. But we’re still not reaching everybody living with cancer. And in the future our services will be more vital than ever. We estimate that in the next twenty years the number of people living with cancer will double to 4 million, and many of those will live longer with their cancers than ever before. Our job of being there for everybody at every stage of their cancer journey will be harder than ever.
Remember: a little effort x lots of people = many lives improved
£1,000 is just 10 times £100!
£1,000 could pay for about five Macmillan palliative care nurses for a day. They help terminally ill people, and their families or carers, cope with the diagnosis and support them so they can continue with their normal activities.
£1,000 could pay for a third of the build costs of a Macmillan Information Point. The Point allows people to easily access Macmillan information resources.
£1,000 could pay for the translation of two and a half of our cancer publications into Welsh.
The cost of travelling to hospital for regular treatment can have a serious impact on a family’s finances. £1,000 could pay for at least six Macmillan Grants that cover the cost of a person’s travel to hospital for treatment.
Hear it from our 2010 marathon runners ……
“Just wanted to say thanks and well done to you both and the rest of your team for organising a great event in NY. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great that you created such a team spirit to help all the runners and their guests get the most out of a memorable weekend.” Steve Bristow
“It is such a great charity that raising money is easy, and the organisation of events is brilliant for runners – so a pretty good combination if you are looking to run any event for any charity, even if you don’t have a natural affiliation to Macmillan, which of course lots of us do.” Alex Popplewell
“Quite simply ‘a life changing experience.’ This has changed my whole perspective on life completely and has made me want to do greater things to help others.” Justin Molloy
