Depaul UK helps young homeless people such as Ashleigh.
Ashleigh came from a very difficult background, her mother was a depressed alcoholic and her father remarried into a relationship that didn’t include Ashleigh. At the young age of fifteen she was living in temporary unstable accommodation with older men who would drink, take drugs and often become violent. Ashleigh came to Depaul UK following a particularly traumatic Christmas and became a resident at our Grove Hostel in Kent. The Grove offered a safe place to stay and project worker, Jackie, helped Ashleigh to continue her GCSE exams whilst developing a strong supportive relationship with her. Ashleigh thrived under the care of Jackie and the team at The Grove and threw herself into life at the hostel taking part in all activities and training opportunities. Ashleigh was accepted on to an Instant Muscle course that assists young people to join the armed forces. This course was intensive and disciplined however, Ashleigh excelled and passed with distinction. Since then Ashleigh has successfully applied to join the army. Ashleigh’s life could have taken a very different route had she not come to Depaul UK that Christmas.
The New York Marathon was one of the first in the world and is now the most exciting! Truly the best way to see New York as you travel through all 5 boroughs and the most iconic landmarks in the USA. You will certainly want to be one of the first Team Depaul runners outside of the UK in this once in a lifetime event.
