10 Boroughs in 10 Days for the Birdman of Manchester

Chris Bird, Chief Executive of Sports Tours International and Chairman of the Bird Consultancy has set himself a challenge to run the 10 boroughs of Manchester in 10 days. That amounts to 100 miles across Greater Manchester – from town hall to town hall.

It’s all to raise £10k for the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity Appeal Trust.

Starting at Manchester’s Albert Square on Monday 18th April Chris will be donning his running shoes and making his way through the city to Stockport, followed by Trafford, Salford, Wigan, Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside before returning to Manchester on Wednesday 27th April.

As the Chairman of the Fundraising Committee for the Lord Mayors Appeal, Chris is also keen to help raise the profile of the charity who’s key message is ‘Give a little, Help a lot’ to alleviate the effects of poverty within the City of Manchester.

“The Lord Mayor’s Charity recognises those causes and initiatives that cannot compete with the larger charities. This is Manchester’s charity and I hope every step I run will help generate much-needed funds for important community initiatives,” said Chris.

“This challenge will help me achieve a personal goal both for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and for myself. I hope that by demonstrating my commitment to the charity, others will follow and see how the appeal can help and support hundreds of families and individuals in the city.

“I’m very proud to have been asked to Chair the Lord Mayor’s Charity. Manchester has given me some great personal and business opportunities and I always look for ways to put something back into our great city. The 100 mile challenge will be a worthwhile test I’m sure.”
